CHILDREN ARE DYING EVERY 2 MINS FROM A WATER-RELATED DISEASE…
According to The Global Water Crisis/Water.org, 844 million live without access to safe water, while 2.3 billion live without. Kenya is one of the growing countries that strive on their faith in GOD and change for their children.
Before leaving Naivasha, I stay a few days in Nairobi to prepare myself for the 26-hour flight back to San Fransisco, then two hours home to Denver, 28 hours total. I asked a few people, “what do you know about Naivasha and the people?” And, I was shocked to find out that they had no idea how they live and what is going on. The news talks about the drought, but not enough to do something. I was even told by a woman that she only sees Naivasha when passing through on her way home. So, I asked her what do you know about the people. She said they live just like everyone else I would imagine. I showed her a video of me visiting the Masai, as we were driving we came upon a pond. It barely had water in it and you can see people bathing, cows drinking and a few women fetching water to cook for their families. They walk for miles and sometimes days looking for water and this is what they find. This water has nine diseases in it.
She could not believe what she was seeing and wanted to learn more about the work I was doing. I shared my website with her and she thanked me for all the work I’m doing and she wants to do more to help. People think that it cost a lot of money to help and it really doesn’t. Yes, funding is very important but the most important is the awareness of those that are ignorant of the fact that they are comfortable living in these conditions and don’t want a better life. The truth is, they want the same things the average person in the world wants. To be financially stable, have a nice house, send our kids to college, and have clean drinking water.
It’s a huge ball of dust with the wind blowing hot air. As I walked the land looking for water I could see dead animals alongside the road, that have died from lack of water, and no one is removing them, they lay there and rot. The cows are so skinny you could see their ribs. As I was walking I could see little tornadoes of dirt spinning in the air. No matter where they drilled there was no water to be found, nothing but dust drifting in the air. I could feel my throat getting dry and my lips feeling chapped from the heat as the sweat dripped down my back with no water in sight. I often wonder what I would do without water, and how we take advantage of one of the things we can’t live without.
Our body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulate its temperature and support other bodily functions. Our body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion. It’s important to rehydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water. Life isn’t about how much money you have and how many things you can buy, it’s about who you are, and what you stand for and believe in. We are in this world together, fighting the same fight to be loved and know our purpose. So take some time today and think about how you can be a part of the change and what is your WHY!
